Monmouth Mud

I am sitting here watching the races at Monmouth Park and the water is just sitting on the track. The track is not very deep at all as you can see by how far the hoof goes into the surface. The times are fast. What they are basically going to do is try and squeeze this thing and it will be harder than a road. This is day one of the rains. It is a pity as Monmouth is a pretty race track and they seemed to try hard to get the Breeders Cup Races and I think they were going to put on a great show. Monmouth is about three miles from the Ocean, so the water table will have an effect on how quick the track dries. I hope no horse gets hurt this weekend because all these expert handicappers and reporters will say it would have never happened on the artificial tracks. I myself, like organic racing better and slop is part of it.

Street Sense has always liked the mud. He is doing tremendous. He breezed as easy as a horse can breeze last week at Churchill and unless Borel screws it up I think he will prevail over Any Given Saturday and Lawyer Ron. I think Lawyer Ron is a natural two turn horse where he runs his best races. Any Given Saturday is an improving horse and will run good having a race over the track and being (of course) by Distorted Humor.

Breeders Cup

When you do your handicapping for the Breeders Cup you should factor in an off track because they are calling for rain on Friday and Saturday at Monmouth. The Distorted Humors have never backed away from an off track and there are six running on Saturday. It will be interesting because some of these two years olds have never run on anything other than a synthetic track and they may not like the dirt or mud hitting them. And of course you know the Europeans will like the soft turf.

Saturday at the Races

The stable ran three horses at three different tracks yesterday. NO MAS ran at Mountaineer Park in Chester, WV and finished fourth. HEY THERE CUPCAKE ran in the "City of Anderson Stake" at Hoosier Park in Anderson, Indiana and finished second. A nice stakes placing for the home bred. Last month at Presque Isle Downs we claimed the horse CANALI for $5000. We ran back yesterday at Keeneland and finished in a dead heat for 3rd and the horse was claimed for $10,000. The two claims we made at Presque Isle Downs were both claimed back on their first start with us, making a profit for each owner.

Big Day for Kentucky!

I am sure you all watched college football yesterday, and who would have ever thunk it that Kentucky would beat LSU! Really what they did was help clear the road for the Buckeye’s to get to the Sugar Bowl!It is their’s to lose now.
