Rose Bowl Trip Recap

Well, my friends, I (Elizabeth) have been wrestling with my parent's blog's ability to post pictures for about one half of an hour – and frankly….I am not intelligent nor patient enough to upload the 30+ pictures here, too.  So head over to Lizzie Loo's Blog and enjoy more of our vacation!!!

FYI:  Funny times some of you may have had when clicking on one of the links…sorry about that…I'm a hardworking bridesmaid on the search for cute garters…thus the accidental link!  All is well now 🙂  Hope you got a laugh!

NTRA-Eclipse Dinner

One would think that the NTRA who sponsors the Eclipse Awards Dinner would not choose a National Holiday to air this important event. One would think they would choose a day that they alone would shine in the world of sports. Every Martin Luther King Holidayy, almost every NBA team plays and they televise the games nationally from noon to well after midnight.

It is also ironic that Santa Anita had to cancel the card today. Due to the weather, the plastic track couldn't take it. It has been quietly announced that any California Track that wants to go back to an organic surface can do so. If Stronach holds on through the bankruptcy, Santa Anita will most likely change back to organic surface (better known as dirt) by the fall meet.

My Picks

The Eclipse Awards finalists (in alphabetical order) are:

• Horse of the Year: Rachel Alexandra, Zenyatta

She ran eight times and won them all against her own division and 3 yr.old colts and 3 and up colts on six different race tracks. She had two trainers and is a remarkable horse. Zenyatta was remarkable. She was 5 for 5 on plastic tracks. Beat older horses in the Breeders Cup. She did come east once to run in the Louisville Handicap on Oaks day but scratched because she didn't like the off track. By the time the race ran, the track was listed as fast.  And almost everybody knew the track would be fast by race time because of the way the weather was and the type of track Churchill has.

• Two-Year-Old Male: Lookin At Lucky, Noble’s Promise, Vale of York (IRE)
• Two-Year-Old Filly: Blind Luck, Hot Dixie Chick, She Be Wild

She won two Grade I's and came back after a troubled trip in the Breeders Cup to win very easy at Hollywood. And, she is by first year sire Pollard's Vision (which we have a share in).

• Three-Year-Old Male: Mine That Bird, Quality Road, Summer Bird

He won the Belmont, the Travers and The  Jockey Club and also we have a mare in foal to Birdstone.

• Three-Year-Old Filly: Careless Jewel, Flashing, Rachel Alexandra
• Older Male: Einstein (BRZ), Gio Ponti, Kodiak Kowboy

I also like Einstein, but going with Gio Ponit because he finished a bang up second in the Breeders Cup.

• Older Female: Life Is Sweet, Music Note, Zenyatta
• Male Sprinter: Dancing in Silks, Kodiak Kowboy, Zensational

ʉۢ Female Sprinter: Informed Decision, Music Note, Ventura
• Male Turf Horse: Conduit (IRE), Gio Ponti, Presious Passion
• Female Turf Horse: Goldikova (IRE), Midday (GB), Ventura

Frankel's last champion.

• Steeplechase Horse: Mixed Up, Red Letter Day, Spy in the Sky
• Owner: Godolphin Racing, Juddmonte Farms, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome S. Moss

Who did the most with less.
• Breeder: Adena Springs, Juddmonte Farms, Dolphus C. Morrison

He bred the horse of a lifetime.

• Trainer: Steve Asmussen, Bob Baffert, John Shirreffs

Can not understand why Jonathan Shepherd isn't in this group.
• Jockey: Ramon Dominguez, Garrett Gomez, Julien Leparoux

He won the most with the least mounts.

• Apprentice Jockey: Luis Batista, Christian Santiago Reyes, Luis Saez

He rode at Churchill for a month this spring and at that time he couldn't speak three words of english.

Oaklawn Park

We are headed for racing at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs Arkansas as well as leaving a few back to race at Turfway. So far the winter has been a little tough. Hope the weather will improve to make things a little easier to operate! We have a number of Two year olds open for partnerships. If you have any interest or know someone who does, please contact us. We are looking to sell a share or two.
