First Day of Spring feels like Summer

Stable winnings are up over a quarter of a million for the year. Oaklawn Park is in the final four weeks of the meet and from what I have been told expect to raise the purses twice before the end. It has been unseasonably warm here in Kentucky and throughout the mid west (84 today) that all the spring blossoms are out and some have already gone. Tulips are in full bloom and daffodils have come and gone. We have already cut the grass once. Everyone is a bit concerned as our last frost date is usually the first week of May. My alfalfa farmer already has a crop a foot high and is worried about frost and freezing temperatures.

SCATMAN places in the Grade II $500,000 Rebel!

Scatman had a good race (not a great race) and finished 3rd in the THE REBEL GII, $500,000 on Saturday at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas for owners JEOG LLC (Jim and Ellen O’Grady). It was a great day with the attending crowd over 31,000.  That is a big change to other tracks that get 3,000 a day. For a few moments, it looked like he may be able to win it all. Exciting and disappointing at the same time. He came out of the race in good shape. He now has $100,000 in Graded earnings (in case you are keeping track).  Congrats to the O’Gradys!
