Opening Day at Keeneland and the new dirt surface

Keenelands new dirt track opens Friday so have your Blazers and Sun Dresses ready. It is not only opening day, but college day where they give 10 $1000.00 scholarships away. They should do it every Friday as they get a much bigger crowd and what is $10,000 when you get that many more people.

So if you want to claim anything, get ready to go. They do have some good claiming races.

There is also two more weeks of racing at Oaklawn in Hot Springs where maiden specials now have a purse of $66,000.

Have a Happy Easter! (Ladies, you can bring out your white shoes for Sunday!)

Spring

I can tell spring is definitely here. The daffodils are blooming, grass is emerging and yesterday afternoon I saw the blue heron standing in the pond looking for dinner. I haven’t seen him since before Thanksgiving. I always have wondered where he spends the winter and I also wonder where he lives when he is here. A beautiful bird. One thing about living on a farm, we see a big variety of birds, some migrating and some year round.

NCAA BASKETBALL

Yesterday was the beginning of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. ESPN had over 15 million people submit brackets and today there are 274 people with 100% correct brackets. I would like to know what those people look like. Those people can not be normal. There are two people (in the ESPN brackets) that had absolutely no winners yesterday. A cow could pick more winners than that! Really, we should just make our selections doing Cow Pie Bingo with 64 squares. We would have about as much luck!

The state of Texas went 0-5 yesterday. Obviously not a basketball state.

St. Patrick’s Day -no blarney

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! The fountains are all green in Hot Springs and today is the first ever 12th annual worlds shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade. All of 98 feet in length.  Nascar driver Mark Martin is the celebrity grand marshall and he brought one of his #1 Army cars. The Swon Brothers provide the post parade entertainment. This parade averages about 25,000 spectators per year. Some of the Dallas Cheerleaders attend and the Jockeys have a float in this “small” parade. The weather will be perfect today with a high of 75 degrees.

Spring has sprung as all the tree’s have blossomed over the weekend. These trees were winter bare Friday morning. So all the excess rain and snow has paid off as we enjoy these fruits of mother nature.
