Monmouth Mud

I am sitting here watching the races at Monmouth Park and the water is just sitting on the track. The track is not very deep at all as you can see by how far the hoof goes into the surface. The times are fast. What they are basically going to do is try and squeeze this thing and it will be harder than a road. This is day one of the rains. It is a pity as Monmouth is a pretty race track and they seemed to try hard to get the Breeders Cup Races and I think they were going to put on a great show. Monmouth is about three miles from the Ocean, so the water table will have an effect on how quick the track dries. I hope no horse gets hurt this weekend because all these expert handicappers and reporters will say it would have never happened on the artificial tracks. I myself, like organic racing better and slop is part of it.

Street Sense has always liked the mud. He is doing tremendous. He breezed as easy as a horse can breeze last week at Churchill and unless Borel screws it up I think he will prevail over Any Given Saturday and Lawyer Ron. I think Lawyer Ron is a natural two turn horse where he runs his best races. Any Given Saturday is an improving horse and will run good having a race over the track and being (of course) by Distorted Humor.
