AUGUST ENDS

The stable had a good month winning six races and over $100,000 in purse money bringing the yearly total to over $929,000. We broke a couple of maidens, one being a two year old and we placed in a stake this month.
We have a big month coming up. Churchill Downs runs its first meet in September replacing Turfway, and Kentucky Downs runs a five day meet on the European all grass course. Then we have the twelve days of yearling sales at Keeneland. A great spot to stock up your stable for next year. On the 6th of this month, Penny and I will be attending the National Awards Dinner for the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association in Lexington as we have been selected as the 2012 Indiana Breeder of the Year. This is the second time we have been honored with this title.
The kids have all gone back to school (we still have two in college) and football has begun. Sara is on her last semester doing her student teaching and is also taking grad classes getting a jump on her masters. Abby has moved from University of Kentucky to Morehead State where she seems to be happier.
We have started to break yearlings on the farm and are finishing up weaning this years foals. Fall is right around the corner.
Oaklawn in Hot Springs Arkansas has released some information regarding the winter meet. The purse for maiden special will be $55,000 which is up from last year. The bottom purse will be $16,000 which is also up from last year. You have to been thinking ahead and stock up this fall.

ROLO CAT WINS THE SECOND RACE AT INDIANA DOWNS

The stable had another 2 Year Old Winner last night. That makes three 2 Year old Winners so far this year.

ROLO CAT won a maiden special at Indiana Downs for owners Richard and Connie Snyder. This is the first horse we have trained for the Snyder’s. Yearly earnings are now over $920,000 for the stable.
College football season started tonight with about a dozen different games. Go Bucks!

Penny and I went to the final day of the Kentucky State Fair this past Sunday. We went because it is usually not as crowded and we wanted to see the draft horse pull.
They also had four of the male characters from “Duck Dynasty” at Freedom Hall for $38 and $48 per seat. We happened to get caught up in the crowd as they were exiting the show. We spoke to a few people who had been at the show and they reported to us there was about 5000 people in attendance. The show consisted of story telling by the Duck Dynasty men with a question and answer period that followed. Almost everyone we spoke to sported some type of clothing that was advertising (in one form or another) the Duck Dynasty family. Pretty entertaining we were told.

PGA!

Golf tournament tickets are on sale this week for the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla which is right outside Louisville and less than 10 miles from the farm. We will gladly move out of our house and rent it out for the week to anyone who is interested.

Churchill Fall Stalls

Stall Applications are due tomorrow for Churchill Downs. It includes the September and November meets. If you have something you would like me to include, please contact me immediately.  Purses will be similar to what they were in the spring. Kentucky Downs runs 5 days in September (all grass) where Maidens are running for $90,000.
