Winning: 3 in a row and scattered showers!

July has come to a quick end with the drought taking hold all across the country. We have been pretty lucky with some of those random scattered showers falling over our farm so we have managed to stay greenish looking and the corn is still tall and perky.

The stable ended the month with 24 wins (26 to date with the addition of the two wins on August 1st) and purse money now pushing over $895,000. We hope the stable will break over the $900,000 mark by the end of day and maybe over the million mark if we have a really good weekend.

There was one stake win with our own Shelby county raised and homebred DREAMIN BIG who is the second horse in the stable to go over $100,000 in earnings for the year and just shy of $300,000 lifetime chalking up 6 wins from 14 starts. Monday was her third impressive win in a row this year.

We are still actively weaning mares and foals on the farm. Separation is tougher for some than others. Cute and heartbreaking at the same time as the little ones call out for their mothers.

The yearlings are being prepped for sale as well as breaking to ride. If you have one that needs our services, we will be happy to break your yearling for you.

September yearling sales are right around the corner.

Dreamin BIG!

Indiana Downs closed last night. We kept the dream alive with DREAMIN BIG winning the Florence Henderson Stakes going 1 1/16 on the Turf. She gave us our 23rd win of the year and boosted earnings to over $816,000. Now Indiana racing will take a break for 3 weeks when Hoosier Park in Anderson, Indiana will open on August 1st.

18 wins and more to go!

We have had a decent first six months winning 18 races and over $675,000 in purse money. Our starting goal for the year was 50 wins and $1.5 million in purses. They are still within reach, but we need to get things moving along. We did have a terrible Churchill meet ending with zero wins and taking home the duck. Had a few seconds and thirds, and a good claim that was taken back next time out on the raise, so some good things did happen during that meet.

Since the Churchill meet closed we have won 4 races including one with a horse we claimed at Churchill winning the first time we ran him back. So that was encouraging. The babies are getting closer to being ready to run, which is always a highlight. We usually have pieces and parts of Two year olds you can buy in to before they run, so if your looking give me a call. Only one more week before Indiana Downs closes and then there is a three week break until Hoosier Parks opens up in Anderson.

Breeding season is over and we have begun weaning the early foaling mares.

Del Mar and Saratoga open July 18th and 20th respectively, so if you are in the neighborhood you should stop in and partake of the beautiful race courses. If you are not in the area, you should make a point of supporting your local mutual handle. Racing needs all fans to participate.

In the words of Harvey Pack, “May the horse be with you”.
