Winner Winner Chicken Dinner at the Twin Spires

Southern Ocean, a three-year-old gelding went wire to wire last Thursday to win the third race on the grass going a mile for $50,000 claiming. This is his 3rd win out of five starts (3-1-1) since we bought him for $9000 in the Keeneland January Racing of all Ages Sale. I was surprised he paid $16.40 as the program had him 7/2 and the Courier Journal picked him to win. Another example of a useful horse that was purchased from the sales for a modest price.

Great weekend!

The stable had a good weekend as we won three races.

On the not so good side, we stood in the paddock at Indiana Downs on Saturday night for an hour waiting for lightening and rain to pass and then they canceled. I left the track and drove ten miles down the road toward home and not a drop had fallen.

May Racing Recap

The month of May was pretty good to us with a final total of 7 wins, 8 seconds, 6 thirds and 7 fourths earning $183, 640. The total stable winnings for the year add up to a little more than $331,500. I have been trying to tell you racing isn’t dead.

Indiana Downs has announced a 12% purse increase for the remainder of the meet which will make Maiden Special races at $39,000. (I do happen to know where there are a few Indiana Bred Two Year Olds for sale if anyone is interested.)
